Equipment
I have to have the right equipment to have a successful music magazine and I will also need the right software to help with all of my work. Some equipment I need just to do the easy things such as: the Pages software for Apple Macs. This will be the program that I will create and edit my magazine on. On the list below is the equipment i am looking to use to create the music magazine to the best of my ability.
Apple Macs & iWorks Pages
The Apple Mac computer is a very important part of my project as it is what i will do all of my work on and has very good programs on which I can use to help me and make my magazine brilliant. The Macs have specialist software, where if I upload a picture I can develop it to make it look very professional and also edit it.
Memory Stick
I will need a memory stick to save my work so that it can be done at home. If my music magazine is going to be good then I will have to work at home to enhance the quality of my work. Having a memory stick to transport my work from the Apple Macs to my laptop at home gives me the option to do my work and improve it to the best of my ability.
Camera
I will have to do a lot of photo shoots. To do photo shoots I will need a good camera, which i will borrow off a friend. The photos that go on my magazine are the main piece of the main heading. You need a decent picture on the front cover to be behind the text so the front cover doesn't look dull and boring. This will persuade customers to buy my magazine. Therefore having a good camera that can take clear and precise shots is important and the better the camera is the more professional the pictures look. The lighting gels help me to take clear and focused shots and changes the color of the music, which helps changing the mood of the picture.
A guide to help me through the project.
I have received a guide to help me through this project. The guide helps me a lot and gives me examples, which i can look at and try to put it my magazine; it also guides me through the project, helping me understand what to write in the different sections.
The Internet.
The Internet is vital to my success during this project. The internet can help and benefit me in many ways such as doing research, downloading images, view other music magazines, upload my work to a blog, This all helps improve my work, so that it is to the best of my ability.
Music magazines.
Professional music magazines that have been published weekly or monthly, it will give me an insight on what my music magazine should look like and contain and how it should be laid out. I do not have to produce a whole magazine, but I do have to produce a front cover, contents page and a double page spread but looking at professional magazines will help me to do this to the best of my ability.

The Final Idea
After Looking At My Research I Realised The Public Listen To A Lot Of pop Music. I Decided To Do A pop Magazine, I Wanted To Find Out Whether People Listened To pop Music In My School, I Done This By Creating A Survey On Surveymonkey.com And Sent It Out On A Social Network Site (Facebook). I Asked 'Do You Listen To pop Music?' 80% Of People Said Yes To That Question; They Listen To Some Form Of pop Music, From One Song To A Whole Album.
Contents Analysis
NME Magazine
From Analysing NME I Found Out That It Focuses Its Front Cover On Its Feature Story. The Use Of Only Having One Picture Makes It Easy To Understand What The Main Story Is About And The Writing Is Behind The Picture Almost As It Is Saying That The Picture Is More Important Than The Magazine. This Is A Feature That I Will Use In My Magazine.
For My Contents Analysis I Analysed Two Magazines. For The First Magazine I Analysed A Top Of The Pops Magazine. The Reason I Decided To Analyse This Magazine Is Because I Did Not Know What Genre Of Music I Wanted My Magazine To Be Aimed At, At This Point So I Wanted To Keep My Options Open. The Second Magazine I Analysed Was NME. I Chose This Magazine Because If Features Rock Artists Such As Kings Of Leon Which Is The Genre Of Music I Would Like My Magazine To Be About.
Inside The NME Magazine The Color Scheme Was Very Similar To The Front Page Which Makes It Look More Professional And Makes It Look Better As A Magazine As Everything Goes. There Is A Large Picture Of A Band Which Gets The Eye Of People, And Has There Up Coming Events Below The Image, So They Catch The Eye Of People With The Picture So They Would Take A Closer Look And Then They See The Up Coming Events Which Hopefully Boost Sales Of Tickets.
Top Of The Pops
From Analysing Top Of The Pop's Magazine I Found Out That It Try's Very Strongly To Attract Its Target Audience Which Is Young Girls. It Dose This By Using Girls Colors Such As Pink And Light Blue. It Also Has Only Male's On The Cover For The Gils To See Which Will Persuade Them To Buy The Magazine. This Is To Make The Magazine Look More Grown Up And Important, Whilst At The Same Time Raises Questions About What Is Going Into Our Children's Magazines? Is It Right To Be Submitting Our Kids To Such Grown Up Themes? Some Adults Will Definitely Disagree In My Opinion The Fact That It Is Produced By Such A High Powered And Trustworthy Company Which Is The BBC We Feel It Is Safe For Our Children To Read It, But How Sure Can We Be?
Initial Idea
I Wanted To Create A Pop Magazine. I Wanted To Do This As I Have An Interest In Pop Music So I Thought It Would Be A Good Idea. The Genre Of Music A Good Choice Because A Lot Of Teenagers Listen To Pop And My Target Audience Is Teenagers So My Opinion Is That It Was The Right Choice.
Rate Card
NME Have Carefully Created A Rate Card To Appeal To Advertising Companies. They Pictures And Logos Of Top Brands That Have Used And Are Currently Using This Magazine For Advertising.
A Rate Card Is A Poster Like Of Information And Statistics That Will Appeal To Advertising Companies. The Aim Of A Rate Card Is To Make Advertising Companies Want To Pay To Put There Adverts In The Magazine. There are many websites and companies out there who sell rate cards or advertise them. This is because they have already done the research to see which rate works the best in the media and on television.
In A Rate Card They Usually Show The Percentages Of Ages, Genders And Social Group Who Read The Magazine, It Shows What What Music They Like And If They Have Mobile Phones. All This Information Is Crucial To Advertisers As It Gives Them An Idea Of Whether Or Not It They Will Benefit From Placeing Adverts In This Magazine.
Photo Shoot
For My Photo Shoot, I Wanted A Male Model To Be Used As Most Males Are Into Rock Magazines. I Needed A Picture For My Front Cover, A Picture For My Contents Page And About Five To Ten Pictures For My Double Page Spread.
From My Research I Realised I Was Going To Have To Have A Picture On My Cover That Showed An Instrument. To Take These Pictures I Used A Friend From School As My Model And I Gave Him A Guitar To Show An Instrument On The Front Page.
The Photo Shoot Took Place At A Friends House, Because He Has A Good Camera To Use For The Shoot So It Would Look Professional, I Took Photos In Different Angles Of His House And At Different Times Of Day. I Also Made Him Change Change What He Was Wearing In Most Of The Photos.
To Make My Photo's Seem More Professional I Edited Them On The Mac Software Called 'iPhoto'. I Feel This Works Well As I Have A Variety Of Different Effects That I Have Used.
I Took The Photos Using My Friends SLR Camera As It Has A High Number Of Meag-pixels (14.2), This Means The Quality Of The Pictures Will Be Very Clear And Look Very Professional Even When The Picture Is Enlarged.

Audiance Research
order to start planning the creation of my music magazine, i had to decide what genre i was going to use; to decide this I decided to do some quantitive research and stand outside HMV and approach passing customers. I asked 60 people which age category they fitted into and which music genre would they most likely purchase when exampled in a music magazine.
Here is my table of results
Age groups | | Music Magazine Genres | | | |
| Pop | Rock | RnB | Classical | Other |
13-16 | 0 | 10 | 0 | 0 | 3 |
17-21 | 12 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 2 |
22-30 | 3 | 3 | 6 | 0 | 0 |
31-41 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 3 | 1 |
42- | 1 | 3 | 0 | 3 | 6 |
From this research task I found out that the age group I wanted to aim my magazine at (17-21) preferred a Genre of pop for a music magazine and so pop is the genre Im going to stick to.
After my research it was easy to see what my magazine should be about and the age group it should be aimed at as the more people who voted for it in my table the chances are there’s more people that are likely to buy it, I will make it fun to read so it is readable for teenagers and not just they can attend to have a listen to the pop music upcoming events like concerts for them to go to and listen to the music.
